Temptation is the first book in The Hunted series by Ivy Smoak. Having just finished The Truth in my Lies by Ivy (Author) I decided to try this series as its a different genre and the reviews seemed fairly good as a whole. Temptation was read over one sitting so I found it a quick read, it probably took me around 4 hours to finish.
I do love new adult romances and Temptation is set in college, so it really suited my type of romance book. Add to that a forbidden (Teacher/student) relationship and my interest levels definitely pique. I enjoyed the story and how each chapter was a day. So, I felt I moved along in time with Penny and her love life. There isn’t really a cliff hanger per se, although you are left wondering what will happen next but I didn’t feel like my life would end if the book had ended there – hope that makes sense to some!
I did have some issues with the characters personalities. I’ll start with Penny. She’s a great girl and comes across as someone I’d like to know… Be friends with even. But for someone who was annoyed at her ex (Austin) for not committing (Adding a title) to their relationship and being a douche, she certainly did the same with Tyler. Admittedly I didn’t love Tyler at first, but as the book moved on I really felt she played him around. James was the typical dominant, alpha, hot teacher and I liked him enough, but towards the end of the book I actually preferred Tyler over him! This didn’t make for a great feeling, as obviously I’m meant to be rooting for Penny and James – surely? Moving onto Melissa (The best friend). I don’t even know where to start with her other than to tell Penny to get a new best friend! I get she’s a pushy friend who gets her own way, but seriously Penny grow a set and tell her to butt out! The whole ‘clothes/telling her what to wear’ in the beginning, the fact Penny doesn’t tell her what happened with Tyler in the beginning either and yet there’s Melissa pushing Tyler onto her in a relationship? I don’t know, but that girl doesn’t sit right with me at all. So, that aside <laughs> I’ve no issues with the book. I usually hate at least one character in New adult romances and I’m guessing Melissa is it for me.
The story has a good pace, there’s some hot scenes and a connection with James and Tyler that I felt was real. I’m curious to see what James is hiding as I think there’s a lot more going on that we know. I’ve started Addicted now, the book after Temptation and will review that shortly. Temptation is a solid 3.5 star read. If I hadn’t of hated Melissa so much and felt Penny was a hypocrite for her actions towards Tyler then this could have been a 4 star read. Available on Kindle Unlimited, its a free read for those who subscribe.
